Has anyone had a laparoscopy for infertility?
SusieQ asked:
I am due to go in for a laparoscopy for my infertility on July 2nd. The doctors can’t find any reason why I am not getting pregnant, so they want to check for endometriosis and remove any they see. He told me there is a 4-5 day recovery. I would love to hear from some ladies who have had this procedure done. Did it have any beneficial effects towards conception? Was it really painful? Any answers would be GREATLY appreciated!

I had one and drove home. They must be pushing something else nowadays. I did end up having to have a D & C because of polyps and went to work as an EMT the next morning. It still took me another several years to get pregnant.

I had this done to determine if my endometriosis could be treated at the same time..I was not able to have any treatment done and had to undergo injections to treat mine. Anyways as far as the procedure they told you the truth…my doctor told me I’d be fine that day..I was in alot of pain the first day or so but it gets better. I think I’d taken it much easier while I was still on the pain meds that gave me during surgery if I was told to instead that I’d be fine w/o pain. As far as scars I have a small not even noticable on along the curve of the inside of my belly button. You can’t even tell I had it done.

Well I had it done too, I was trying to get pregnant for five yrs, all the tests that;why I decided to have it done, I wont say its painful that much, I only stayed in the hospital for a day and after three weeks I went to see my gynec for the results and she told me that my tubes are blocked and I can only get pregnant through ivf. So I went through ivf treatment and in the first try I got pregnant. I hope everything went well with you. Good luck.

yes, girl had one 7 yrs ago, am still trying to conceive. at the end it all depends on an individual. Your Doc would be the best to consult. The experience was not bad, just felt dizzy after the procedure but was ok for the rest of the day

I had a laparoscopy in April this year. It is not particularly painful. Basically they go into the abdomen through some tiny incisions in your navel and just above the bikini line. They then extend your abdomen with gas, so that they can see what they are doing. The doc will then insert his hi-tech tools and do what he needs to do. If there is endometriosis, they can remove it (this is what happened to me).
Afterwards, the only major discomfort is from the gas that they use to extend your abdomen - it may cause you shoulder pain. Otherwise, the incisions are closed with 1 stitch each. You may experience mild discomfort (like light period pains) in your lower abdomen. After a day or two, you will be up and about again.
It takes a while for your period to resume (mine took 10 weeks!) but thereafter you will be ready to ttc again.

I also had it done in April and at the same time had my gallbladder taken out. Just take it easy it took me about a month to get back to all my jobs. (Still working on the pregnancy thing)
