How uncomfortable are the infertility tests?

ttccutie asked:

I am assuming that my period will be showing up on Thursday or thereabouts and that means that I’ll be starting fertility testing. How uncomfortable are the hsg and hysteroscopy tests?

I had the HSG, I honestly didn’t think it was bad at all. It took the doc a few minutes to get the catheter through my cervix, I took 3 IB profen before the test and I was fine. I actually thought it was kind of cool too see the dye go through my uterus and tubes on the x-ray screen. Took only a few minutes, felt like mild cramps after. Went away in about two hours, I went to work that day to. Never had a hysterocsopy. They did a tranversal ultrasound on a few days after my period ended, and then the HSG. Had no issues w/ either one. I hope you are pregnant tho, be nice to avoid all the tests :)

I’ve had 2 HSGs done and I wouldn’t say they’re painful, but uncomfortable. It’s like having a more intense pap smear. I haven’t had a hysteroscopy, but I know women who have and some say the HSG is worse. So all in all, it’s not that bad.

    Good luck.

Not too bad, but not fun. I was asleep for the hysteroscopy because I also had a D&C. Afterward I felt some cramping and got my period early, but that was probably more D&C related.

My HSG experience was like the other poster’s. I took the ibuprofen beforehand and also asked for a Valium before, which helped relax me. The woman who went right before me assured me it wasn’t that bad, which helped. I understand that if your tubes are blocked it can be more uncomfortable, but either way it is over quickly. My husband bought me a big Jamba Juice afterward, and then I went to work and was more or less fine for the rest of the day. The next day I felt totally normal.

Try not to worry too much. The hardest test for me was drinking 64 oz of water and having to hold it before the ultrasound.

    Good luck!

Its not uncomfortable. I had one last month and i had only one paracetamol an hour before the test. Although the dye couldn’t go through, but i didn’t feel such any pain which many people have described in youtube and other sites. Afterward, i had some cramps which lasted for about an hour or two. So, don’t worry and try to be relaxed. All the best!
